The BTO 15M55 gaming laptop

Introduction and specifications

BTO is a company that allows you to configure your own laptops from a barebone system. My 15M55 is configured as follows:

 Intel core i7 4710MQ
8GB DDR3 (1600Mhz)
Nvidia Geforce GTX 860M 2GB
120GB Crucial SSD
1TB 7200RPM HDD
Windows 8.1 64 bit
DVD RW drive
Intel WiFi
Bluetooth

I wanted a laptop i could play the latest games on so a dedicated fast videocard was a must have for me and while its not the fastest mobile card you can buy its a good compromise between price and performance.

Connectivity

The BTO has all the necessary ports:

On the left side its got 2 USB 3.0 ports, 1 USB 2.0 port, HDMI out, microphone in , audio out and power in

On the right side we find an ethernet port, another USB 2.0 port and even a VGA port as well as the DVD drive:

Screen and keyboard

The laptop features  a 15,6 inch fullHD LCD screen which is a TN panel but viewing angles are still good and brightness is ok.  Its not brilliant but its certainly not a bad panel.

The keyboard has a nice feel to it and is a joy to type on and for those who like a bit of bling: It has a blue LED backlight (which can be turned off if you dont like that)

Performance:

My machine has a pretty potent core i7 quadcore processor, 8GB of ram and an SSD. Couple that with a Nvidia geforce GTX 860M with 2GB of ram and you've got yourself a pretty fast machine that will even run the latest games smoothly.

Boot times are almost non-exsistant, in under 10 seconds you are good to go and general speed of the machine surfing the net, editing videos and playing games is pretty good.

Go see my youtube video on how this machine performs with games.

Build quality

Build quality is overall descent but i found the touchpad a bit flimsy. Besides the touchpad everything feels solid and typing on it is also pretty good with good key travel and feedback.  The screen hinges also feel like they will last.  The thing i dislike is the used plastic. It is a fingerprint magnet.
Overall: nothing special but solid enough.

Battery life

I can be short on this one: It not that great. You' ll be luck to get 4 hours worth of surfing the net and even less while playing games.

Verdict

The BTO 15M55 is a pretty descent laptop. For the price you get a laptop with pretty high specs and   descent build quality. The battery wont last long but then again, this laptop isnt meant to be carried around and used on the go the whole time. It weighs almost 3 kg  so its more like a desktop replacement that you can move about rather than an ultra portable and its a good one at that.
If you go to LAN parties, or just like your pc to be portable this is the laptop for you.
